Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) is the largest state-owned natural gas producer in the country. It is one of the largest industrial enterprises, producing natural gas directly, processing it through pipelines and supplying it to gas transmission systems. BGFCL currently accounts for about 30% of the country's total gas production. It also meets the country's significant liquid fuel demand by converting condensate (a by-product of natural gas) to petrol and diesel. BGFCL pays a significant amount of national revenue to the government every year. BGFCL currently operates 6 gas fields namely Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, Narsingdi, Meghna and Kamta. Of these 6 gas fields, Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, Narsingdi and Meghna gas fields are currently producing gas. The remaining gas fields have been shut down due to excessive water production. In addition, at the direction of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, another gas field named Feni Gas Field has been handed over to Niko Resources (Bangladesh) and Bapex for operation. Petrobangla recently authorized BGFCL to oversee the Sangu Production Facility (Sangu Plant) at Silimpur, Chittagong, which was operated by the international oil company, Santos Bangladesh Limited.
